As thousands of Americans are sitting around their living rooms and bar counters to see which NBA team will pick their favorite players, I’m scoping the fashion scene. Each year, young athletes get suited and booted waiting to adorn their head with a noted team’s snapback. For some, this is the first tailored suit they’ve ever worn. For others, choosing an accent color to set off their ensemble is nothing new.

Here are some of my favorite picks so far:

Bradley Beal of the Florida Gators was selected No. 3 overall by the Washington Wizards. He was one of my favorites of the night. Beal’s light and natural color scheme set the night off. It’s as if he knew he would get picked by the Wizards — the red snapback contrasts perfectly with his brown suit and Hennessy colored tie. My only suggestion for Beale would be to lose the pocket square. While it matches the contrast stitching on the pockets I would prefer it to compliment his tie. I grade it 90%.

Damian Lillard of Weber Statewas selected No. 6 overall by the Portland Trail Blazers. The only reason Lillard stood out to me is because of his contrasting lapels. Red accents paired with black, grey and white solids always gives a classic look. Like Beale, Lillard must have known the Blazers would pick him. The team’s snapback matches perfectly with his ensemble for the night. My suggestion for Lillard is to wear a spread collar with this suit jacket. I grade it 76%.

Dion Waiters of Syracuse was selected No. 4 overall by the the Cleveland Cavaliers during the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft. Waiters’ grey suit was pretty standard, cut well, but nothing special. However, his orange sorbet tie paired against a lighter tone of the same color family was the show-stopper. Soft yet vibrant tones such as these are in for the summer season. While Waiters is definitely on trend for the season I would suggest he makes sure his pocket square is always fluffed to perfection. I score this look 86%.
