Rapper Waka Flocka Flame Shot

Up-and-coming Atlanta MC Waka Flocka Flame was shot Tuesday (January 19) in his hometown, according to Fulton County Police.

Flocka (real name: Juaquin Malphurs) suffered a gunshot wound to the arm as he was stopped at a carwash on National Highway. He was rushed to nearby Grady Hospital. A spokesperson for his record company said Flame will be fine.

Police said the matter is under investigation and wouldn’t say whether there was a suspect. Sergeant Scott McBride, a spokesperson for the Fulton County Police Department, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that “a scuffle broke out, then shots were fired.” According to several reports, an unknown assailant tried to take the rapper’s jewelry.

Flocka, part of Gucci Mane’s So Icey camp, has made a name for himself recently with the song “O Let’s Do It.” An unofficial remix of the record has hit the Net featuring Lil Wayne, Trae Tha Truth and Rick Ross. Ludacris also jumped on the record with his own version for an upcoming mixtape. Waka appears on Gucci Mane’s The State vs. Radric Davis on the track “Bingo.”

Waka was in the midst of putting together a new mixtape with DJ Holiday before Tuesday’s shooting.

Utterly and completely lost at what Gucci Mane is talking about… I’ll have to listen to it once again. Comprehensive or ghetto-lingo-deficient, you must admit that this is one hell of a ‘hood collaboration; Gucci + Nicki + Waka Flocka + Shawty Lo + Gotti + (unknown to me) Fozzie Bear (yes, like the Muppet)! All this song is missing is a few more jail birds to make it really whistle. Where’s T.I.?

I’m expecting to hear this in a club near me in about a week or so… I’ll know the words (oblivious to the meaning) by then!

Rihanna released her new single via her website today as a part of her countdown (The Wait is Ova) for the release of her fourth studio album (11/23/09).

I thought she would hit the scene running with an upbeat dance track but instead she debuted a slow ballad. What do you think about it?
